"Ready to Go" 12x16 oil on linen. Six step progression demo!

Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

Step 4

Step 5

Finished -Step 6

This is a direct Alla Prima method of painting, where one is going for the finish with every stroke.  It is not necessarily a stage by stage, or layering in and repainting.  I like using this method sometimes, and usually can finish a small one in a long sitting.  Even larger paintings can be approached this way....finishing portions of a large composition as if they were small paintings.....each finished as one sitting on subsequent days.  One must of course be aware to the whole when working this way.  One must also have reasonable observation skills.....it is very easy for the drawing and shapes to go astray if attention is not paid to that issue.  This is not a hyper realistic painting, so reasonable accuracy is what I'm going for.  I must say that this is only one approach that I use.  It is not necessarily the best or easiest.  All approaches are valid.....it depends on ones mood at the time.  In the end, one can not detect method....it's more about enjoying the process and keeping yourself entertained.  Hope you enjoyed the progression demo.  Thanks for listening to my ramblings.
